Cantar de los nibelungos... En Música Clásica

El Cantar de los nibelungos es un poema épico de la Edad Media, escrito sobre el siglo XIII, anónimo, de origen germano.
También es conocido como Nibelungenlied (del alemán, idioma en que está escrito: literalmente significa "Canción de los nibelungos") o Nibelunge Not (por las palabras que aparecen en el último verso del manuscrito hallado en Hohenems (Austria), que significaría "Pena (o necesidad) de los nibelungos").
Este cantar de gesta reúne muchas de las leyendas existentes sobre los pueblos germánicos, mezcladas con hechos históricos y creencias mitológicas que, por la profundidad de su contenido, complejidad y variedad de personajes, se convirtió en la epopeya nacional alemana, con la misma jerarquía literaria del Cantar de mío Cid en España y el Cantar de Roldán en Francia....

La Folia

La primera mención al termino "folia" es la hecha por el dramaturgo portugués Gil Vicente en su obra de teatro "Auto de Sibilla Cassandra" (1503), en la que se la menciona como una danza interpretada por pastores. Por su forma musical, estilo y etimología del nombre, se ha sugerido que la melodía surgió como una danza a mediados o finales del siglo XV, bien en Portugal o en la zona del viejo reino de León (zona de influencia galaica),o bien en el levante valenciano. Sebastián de Covarrubias en el Tesoro de la lengua castellana, describe la folía como una danza rápida y confusa, en la que los bailarines debían llevar sobre sus hombros a hombres vestidos de mujer.
El esquema armónico de folía, (i)-V-i-VII-III-VII-i-V-(i), apareció en las fuentes musicales por lo menos un siglo antes de las primeras piezas fechadas llamadas "Folía", que son de finales del siglo XVI. Lo encontramos por primera vez a finales del siglo XV en fuentes de música vocal tanto de origen italiano (Cancionero Musical de Montecassino, Cancionero Musical de Perugia, repertorio de las frottole) como español (principalmente en el Cancionero Musical de Palacio y, más tarde, en las ensaladas). Aunque aparezca en diferentes países bajo numerosas variantes que comparten las mismas características estructurales, no es posible establecer en base a las fuentes musicales cuál fue el país de procedencia del esquema de folía. Tal como sugieren investigaciones recientes, el esquema de folía fue en origen el resultado de la aplicación de un proceso de improvisación y composición específico a simples melodías en modo menor. Por tanto, lo que se difundió por Europa a partir de finales del siglo XV, no fue un tema específico formado por una secuencia de acordes, sino una técnica de composición-improvisación que podía generar estas secuencias de acordes. Por esta razón encontramos el esquema de folía en tantas obras que tienen títulos y orígenes diferentes.1
En la música renacentista y barroca occidental se distinguen con claridad dos temas que son llamados "Folía" en las fuentes musicales: un tema de folía temprana y un tema de folía tardía. La temprana, que aparece por primera vez en el manuscrito Ramillete de flores, del autor español Antonio Martín y Coll a finales del siglo XVI, se basa prevalentemente en el esquema armónico i-V-i-VII-i-V / i-V-i-VII-i-V, aunque existan numerosas variantes significativas. Fue un tema muy popular sobre todo en España, Italia y Francia tal como demuestra su presencia en numerosas fuentes manuscritas e impresas, prevalentemente para guitarra.
La folía tardía, basada en el esquema armónico i-V-i-VII-III-VII-i-V / i-V-i-VII-III-VII-i-V-i, se asocia a la establecida en 1672 por Lully. Tomando la Folía tocada en España, Lully redujo el frenético ritmo de la danza para adecuarlo al gusto cortesano de Versalles, componiendo una pieza sosegada, perfectamente simétrica en la que el tema principal era sometido a variación. En ese momento, la folía pasó a conocerse como la Folía de España, al darle Lully ese nombre. Esta forma de la Folía se hizo famosa entre los compositores clásicos, y se mantiene hasta la actualidad, habiendo sido especialmente popular durante el barroco y el clasicismo. La folía tardía, de esta manera, pasó a constar de una sucesión tipo de acordes que da soporte a una línea melódica también típica, a saber, la melodía original. Sobre este esquema básico los autores compusieron variaciones respetando siempre la base armónica y melódica básica.
Las versiones de la folía y sus variaciones han sido muchas, y van desde las tres variaciones para arpa de Alessandro Scarlatti hasta las 26 variaciones para orquesta sinfónica compuestas por Antonio Salieri. Además, muchos autores clásicos incluyeron el tema de la folía tardías en sus obras, tal y como lo hicieron Arcangelo Corelli en sus Concerti Grossi, Domenico Scarlatti, Antonio Vivaldi, George Frideric Handel, y Johann Sebastian Bach en algunas cantatas.
En el siglo XIX la popularidad de la Folía disminuyó, pero en el siglo XX algunos compositores retomaron el interés por la misma. Es el caso de Sergei Rachmaninov en sus Variaciones sobre un tema de Corelli (1931) y Manuel María Ponce con sus Variaciones y fuga sobre la Folía de España para guitarra.
Además, la folía ha sobrevivido como danza popular en algunas regiones, como en las Islas Canarias, donde existen las llamadas Folías Canarias, de tempo lento, o en Brasil, donde la cultura afro-brasileña mantiene las llamadas Folia de Reis (Folía de Reyes). Sin embargo, éstas últimas no parecen mantener una clara relación con la folía clásica.

La música vocal de Vivaldi, a mi juicio, con el tiempo es apreciada en un nivel cercano al de Bach. Para aquellos que han trabajado a través de los senderos rocosos de las grabaciones extrañas, claros y oscuros de su música sacra, que fué tomamdo vida  por Robert King y Alessandrini Rinaldo, su repertorio operístico es un regalo de Dios, tanto más cuanto que estos CDs de este último se han visto favorecidos por cantantes verdaderamente excelentes. Y no pensais que es una maravilla? ¿Quién, aparte de Bach (y, en menor medida, de Haendel), forja el vínculo entre la escritura inseparable instrumental y vocal, que nos da instrumentos de viento que gimen y lloran y cadencias que se elevan como violines  al igual que violas? Farnace Jordi Savall es audaz. Una trama más o menos incomprensible, con su historia de amor... es simplemente la ocasión para la música. Este es el perdón que se extiende a estas óperas venecianas con el fin de entrar en ellas.  

Hay mucho por descubrir en estos tres discos y ediciones de la versión de Savall Corselli... Que son  enriquecedoras.

Jordi Savall i Bernadet (Igualada, Barcelona, 1941) es un violagambista, director de orquesta y musicólogo español, especializado en música antigua.

Savall empezó a estudiar música a los seis años en Igualada. En 1965 acabó sus estudios superiores de música y violonchelo en el Conservatorio de Barcelona.
En 1968 se trasladó a Suiza para ampliar su formación en la Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, reivindicando un instrumento antiguo casi olvidado, la viola de gamba, y defendiendo la importancia de la música antigua de la península Ibérica. En este centro fue discípulo del maestro August Wenzinger, a quien sucedió en 1973.
En 1970 empezó una exitosa carrera como intérprete de viola de gamba, de la que es considerado por la crítica uno de los más grandes intérpretes.
Entre 1974 y 1989 fundó tres conjuntos, Hespèrion XX (1974, ahora Hespèrion XXI), La Capella Reial de Catalunya (1987) y Le Concert des Nations (1989), con repertorios que van desde la Edad Media al siglo XIX, pero que siempre son interpretados con el máximo rigor histórico.
Ha dirigido orquestas de prestigio como la Orquesta Sinfónica de la Fundación Calouste Gulbenkian, la Orquesta Camerata de Salzburgo, la Wiener Kammerorchester y la Philarmonia Baroque Orchestra de San Francisco.
Durante más de 25 años de reivindicación de la música antigua, Jordi Savall ha recibido numerosas distinciones: En 1988 fue nombrado «Officier de l'Ordre des Artes et des Lettres» por el Ministerio de Cultura de Francia. En 1990 recibió la Creu de Sant Jordi de la Generalidad de Cataluña. En 1998, el Ministerio de Cultura de España le otorgó la Medalla de Oro de las Bellas Artes, y desde 1999 es Miembro de Honor de la Konzerthaus de Viena. También ha recibido el Premio de Honor de la Fundación Jaume I, y ha sido investido Doctor Honoris Causa por la Université Catholique de Louvain (Bélgica).
Su discografía supera el centenar de grabaciones en diferentes sellos, por los cuales ha recibido más de cincuenta premios internacionales. Desde 1998 edita sus discos con su sello propio, ALIA VOX.
Su trabajo también incluye la música para películas, ganando un César (mejor música) en 1992 con la banda sonora de Todas las mañanas del mundo, y resultando nominado en los mismos premios en 1998 por la partitura de Marquise.

Anna Netrebko

Anna Yuryevna Netrebko,  (18 de septiembre de 1971 en Krasnodar, Rusia) es una cantante soprano ruso-austriaca. Una de las más importantes sopranos líricas de la generación a la que pertenece con dotes de actriz y bella presencia. Una auténtica superestrella de la lírica.

Comenzó su carrera artística como conserje en el Teatro Mariinski de San Petersburgo (sede de la Ópera Kirov),1 donde llamó la atención del director de orquesta Valery Gergiev y en consecuencia se hizo su mentor musical.2 Guiada por Gergiev, debutó en el Mariinsky como Susana en Las bodas de Fígaro. Siguió cantando papeles destacados con la Ópera Kirov, incluyendo Annina en La sonnambula, Pamina en La flauta mágica, Rosina en El barbero de Sevilla, y Lucía en Lucia di Lammermoor.

En 1995, con veinticuatro años, debutó en Estados Unidos, como Ludmila, en la ópera de Mijaíl Glinka Ruslán y Liudmila en la Ópera de San Francisco. Después de su exitosa representación, se convirtió en frecuente cantante invitada en San Francisco. También apareció en otras ciudades estadounidenses y es conocida como una aclamada intérprete de papeles operísticos rusos, como Ludmila, Natasha (en Guerra y paz, Louisa en su Boda en el Monasterio y Marfa en La novia del zar.

El timbre y flexibilidad vocal de Netrebko la capacitan para incursionar en el repertorio belcantista y romántico, bajo la guía de Claudio Abbado y en un principio con clases de la famosa soprano italiana Renata Scotto, especialista en el belcanto, cosechó éxitos como Julieta en I Capuleti e i Montecchi', Gilda en Rigoletto, Musetta en La Bohème y Lucia di Lammermoor en la Ópera de Los Ángeles.

En 2002, Netrebko debutó en el Metropolitan Opera como Natasha, en el estreno en el Met de Guerra y paz. El mismo año, cantó su primera Donna Anna en el Festival de Salzburgo, dirigida por Nikolaus Harnoncourt

Su repertorio en 2003 incluyó interpretaciones de Violetta en La Traviata en Múnich y Donna Anna en la Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Ese año vio también el lanzamiento de su primer álbum: Opera Arias, que se convirtió en uno de los clásicos más vendidos del año. Su segundo álbum, Sempre Libera, se lanzó al año siguiente. Cantó un Romeo y Julieta con Rolando Villazón, con el que también interpretó L'elisir d'amore en 2005. El mismo año, cosechó los entusiastas aplausos de público y crítica al aparecer, una vez más junto a Villazón, como Violetta Valéry en La Traviata en el Festival de Salzburgo y dirigida por Carlo Rizzi.

Ha cantado Guerra y paz, dirigida por Gergiev, en el Teatro Real de Madrid (2001). Como Natasha y otras heroínas de la ópera rusa, el timbre y físico privilegiado de la soprano evocan a su antecesora, la legendaria Galina Vishnévskaya, musa inspiradora de compositores como Prokofiev, Shostakovich y Britten.

La voz de Netrebko se caracteriza por tener tanto la suavidad y flexibilidad de una soprano lírica y la resonancia y oscuro timbre de una soprano lírico spinto. Tiene una amplia tesitura, siendo capaz de alcanzar el Mi bemol sobreagudo de soprano e incluso fás más agudos. Esto le ha permitido cantar personajes como Elvira en I Puritani de Bellini y una alabada Susanna en Las bodas de Fígaro en Salzburgo bajo la dirección de Harnoncourt.

En marzo de 2006, Netrebko solicitó ser ciudadana austriaca, recibiendo su ciudadanía a finales de julio.4 De acuerdo con una entrevista en las noticias semanales austriacas, vivirá en Viena y Salzburgo. Esto ha provocado polémica en Rusia.
